Support Us!
Every skatepark is the direct result of a successful advocacy effort. By donating to SPS you help bring better information to more communities requiring expert direction.
SPS is committed to ensuring that the path to a successful skatepark is available to skaters everywhere, and it's our goal that the information provided here gets it done. The compilation and presentation of this material has taken years of preparation and experience. Your contribution greatly assists our efforts to serve even more communities and will ensure the continued publication of important skatepark and skateboarding-related essays, articles, and research. We're all in this together.
All contributions are tax-deductible; SPS is a non-profit tax-exempt charitable organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. Your generous donation helps SPS continue to publish most useful, up-to-date skatepark information available free of charge and without advertising.
There are lots of ways, big and small, that you can spread awareness about skaters and skateparks. Please contact us for other ways you can get involved in Skaters for Public Skateparks.
SPS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Since its creation in 2004, Skaters for Public Skateparks has amassed quite a list of notable achievements.
- Launched the first national comprehensive skatepark advocacy network and library with all of its content and services provided absolutely free.
-
Successfully advocated for and implemented the removal of anti-skateboarding policy and deterrent devices from a public park, setting an important precedent for other communities all over the nation.
- Wrote and produced the first full-size, comprehensive printed skatepark advocacy manual, the Public Skatepark Development Guide. Additionally, the Guide is free for the asking (the recipient only pays shipping)!
- Hosts a number of non-profit charters. This service enables communities to focus on their skatepark priorities rather than on the cost and paperwork of managing a non-profit organization.
-
Consistenly provides educational sessions and information booths at the ASR trade show -- focusing on the skateboarding industry to increase support for skateparks -- and NRPA -- attention to Parks Departments faced with growing interest in skateboarding facilities.
- Have influenced proper design and construction direction with our Visual Glossary of street elements. This document illustrates the kinds of forms, constraints, and usage of common street structures to help communities avoid costly mistakes.
-
Consistently create and publish helpful literature for advocacy groups to employ in their own local efforts...again, for free.
Skaters for Public Skateparks is non-profit organization owned and operated entirely by volunteers. Our mission is simply to see better skateparks built in more communities. Whatever help you can provide in furthering this important mission is appreciated.
ABOUT SPS STAFF
Skaters for Public Skateparks' staff is grouped into several
categories. Contributors deliver field reports and assist in other
forms of editorial guidance. Regional Directors are key contact persons
for skatepark development guidance and instruction. Organizational
operations are handled by the Board of Directors. Together, SPS
maintains both ongoing services and products as well as special
projects several times a year. SPS is fortunate to have such a
dedicated, passionate group of volunteers.
