The Skatepark Process

Every skatepark is the result of a successfully executed process, with phases that are remarkably consistent from one to the next. Our goal is to empower effective skatepark advocates, helping them avoid expensive trial and error.

SPS volunteers are active in over 30 states and four countries.

Some things have changed around here recently. If you're familiar with SPS you'll notice a brand new layout. Furthermore, SPS now offers even more editorial content through the partnership with skatepark.org and it's growing all the time. If you have skatepark questions, you've come to the right place.

To get the answers you need, the best place to start is with the online Skatepark Development Guide. This is the collected wisdom and instruction from the nation's most effective skatepark advocates. If it can be done, they've done it and if it can't be done, they've probably tried it.

You'll find that the skatepark development content is divided into easy-to-follow chapters arranged in chronological order. So, if you're new to skatepark advocacy you'll want to check out the Vision and Advocacy chapters. Those of you with a solid grasp of the process that have more exacting needs may want to jump into the Fundraising or Design chapters. If you're a Parks administrator with questions about your existing skateparks or you are facing a passionate group of local skaters eager for changes in your area's offerings, you may want to check out the Management chapter.

If all else fails you are invited to contact our enthusiastic volunteer staff directly via the Forums . If face-to-face meetings are more your style, take a look in the Staff Directory to see if there's a volunteer near you. Questions about Skaters for Public Skateparks may be directed to the SPS staff.

Some Things Haven't Changed!
Since its creation, SPS has been and continues to be an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. We have nothing to sell. Our simple mission is to help communities create better skateparks. That's all!

Your donation goes a long way to helping keep SPS successful. Whatever you can give goes directly toward keeping the best skatepark information available and free to communities in need.
