Speaking Out

Skateboarders should be allowed to skate without being stopped, harassed, asked to leave, or arrested. Places to skate are needed by skateboarders, if we don't skate anywhere, we won't be able to progress and get better. In order to skate to the best of our ability, we need to be exposed to all different types of terrain. Although there are skateparks around, not everyone can afford to pay to get in. Public ones are available, but they are so scarce, that only a few fortunate cities have them.

Intentional harm or wrongdoing to or upon others is never imposed. When we skate, our only intention is to be able to skate and have fun. Killing or injuring others is definitely not first on most of our piority lists. Looked upon as criminals and treated as villains, when we didn't even steal anything! Any harm done to any property or person is by accident; besides, everybody makes mistakes!

Rollerbladers and bikers are not forbidden. Most of the signs around will only say, No Skateboarding. At HBHS, there is a humongous sign that forbids skateboarding, but the bikers were there taking advantage of the multiple stairs without disturbance. Bikers and bladers are fully capable of causing damage just as skateboarders are, if not more. If they are allowed to blade and bike, we should be allowed to skate there, too! Skateboarding is not a crime. Skaters should be allowed to skate in public places as long as we aren't causing any illegal crimes, such as stealing, or murder. After all, we just want to skate, so let us. We have a right to skating without being harassed, so let the skateboarders do what they do best!
