New postby reapingcrone » Tue Nov 10, 2009 6:27 pm

On-A-Roll Inc. is pleased to announce that the Skatepark of Lockhart, Texas will have its Grand Opening on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at 1:30pm.

Attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be the Hon. James Bertram, Mayor of the City of Lockhart; members of the Lockhart City Council; members of the Lockhart Parks and Recreation Department; members of the Press; members of the construction crew (PARTHENON CUSTOM CONCRETE); and skaters and parents from all over Texas.

We would like to invite all interested persons to come out to the City Park of Lockhart to join us in this celebration, which will be starting at 1:30pm. Please remember that the skatepark is not yet open -- but be patient: it will be very soon!

Access to the skatepark is best along Carver Road: go into the City Park from the small gravel road just past the baseball field. The skatepark is on the right side:

Brete,

From talking with Mike I think they are just trying to get the park open. Sure they would like to have some people come from out of town, but this is more about getting the park open to the public. They are definitely not planning a big event like New Braunfels.

thanks for the heads up on the ribbon cutting only. i got all excited to see something new, almost ready to pack up and go.
probably will have to wait. the thought of draggin' a couple of kids to Lockhart would be rough with no skate. Oh well, to the ditch we shall return.
Thanks again to this forum and all its friends, from builders and skaters. Keep the stoke alive!
Congrats Lockhart!
can't wait to join you for an early morning sesh on a cold grey wednesday in January...

JCB - please *DO* come on out on Sunday, bring your kids, bring your board(s) too - there's some good concrete to skate in Lockhart! We think you'll have a lot of fun.

More good news: I went by the site last night and there was already a big huge light right above the street area, and it was OPERATIONAL.

The City is presently installing grass all around, so it's starting to look really good out there. Can't wait!

Hey Darrell, you bet I'm going to push for more lights!

Should be nice weather for skating some perfect concrete, so come on down if you can!

Best wishes,

ML

Thank YOU Darrell for coming out to join us for the festivities!

Thanks also to Carter Dennis for his immense help in guiding us through virtually every aspect of the process, from design to build, through administration and stewardship: we really appreciate your help Carter, so THANK YOU!

:D

Lockhart is a very small town (13,000 people); despite the fact that it's located in the 3rd poorest county in Texas, the citizens of Lockhart have a lot of "heart," and the diversity and pride of the community was very in evidence at the ground-breaking ceremony: lots of young and old skaters and non-skaters really showed up for this event, and it's no exaggeration to say that there were a lot of REALLY GOOD VIBES in abundance.

So that was yesterday, which was, in all fairness, a political event; but what about TODAY, when no politicians were around?

Well, I'm delighted to report that today I witnessed groups of kids skating the park all day long, and they were having an ABSOLUTE BLAST. I'd call that the best measure of success!

Thanks to everyone who helped -- we are MOST GRATEFUL.
