Does SPS sell insurance for public skateparks?

No. Through quantitative analysis we've found that a compelling majority of the most famous and well-used skateparks in the world are more than adequately covered under standard municipal insurance policies. Further, Skaters for Public Skateparks is a non-profit consumer advocacy "staffed" by a small army of volunteer skateboard advocates. We are not an insurance sales office and the body politic has democratically made it clear they have no desire for us to move in that direction.

What's more to say? Even the Consumer Product Safety Commission has reported the relative safety of skateboarding over other activities, as astutely reported in the following article:

Orthopedic corner: Skateboarding safer than basketball

We believe it's in the best interests of our constituency to identify and mitigate or eliminate barriers to public skatepark adoption. One hurdle lies in the belief that a skatepark requires a special insurance policy. Once unnecessary risks of usage are eliminated what's left is a relatively safe activity within a relatively safe public forum, and therefore, free of the need for special insurance.
